Hiking in the Hoodoos

Okay, so I don’t live anywhere near an ocean, but guess what I do live near to?

If you walk one block south from our house, you will come up against a plateau, I daresay it is almost like a mesa (complete with cacti, YES, we have cacti in Canada, craziness, eh?).  The sun was shining and thankfully hubby had his iPhone with him so I borrowed it to take these photos…

and the snow melted, so it was a perfect day for a hike. I’d like to say that we took the path less traveled, but at least we chose a different path from our normal routine and we soon found out why it was a well traveled path…Hoodoos! In our backyard and we didn’t even know about these!  Sometimes you have to be a tourist in your own town.

Layers of sediment artistically carved with erosion and time, they are so cool!

Hubby is very “supportive” of his daughter, always ready to lend a helping hand…

Yup, sometimes it’s good to try new paths, even if they are well traveled!

And this was our first taste of a possible spring…sunshine and temperatures just above 0.  Woooooo Hoooooo!  or should I say Woooooo Hooooodoooos!

*UPDATE*:  Here is the view from our front door this morning…

Okay, so spring is not here.

Hoodoo ~ ‘a natural column of rock in western North America often in fantastic form’ or ‘something that brings bad luck’. I had to look that one up! You definitely found hoodoos to hike in…the former not the latter. That’s a part of your desert I have never seen. Great pic’s!

Who knew you had hoodoos! Those first shots look like you were in the Southern parts of the U.S.
Oh what a contrast that last shot is.

Hoodoos to ya! We love the landscape and climate in your area. You get all the seasons and we have seen the cactus growing there. Looks like you have a new spot for spring and summer exploring. Maybe we’ll meet you in the hills.
